Teledyne FLIR has introduced the A8481, a compact high-definition mid-wave infrared (MWIR) science camera suitable for thermal research and testing of electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The camera enables researchers to analyze temperature distribution and thermal behavior across battery components and assemblies.
The A8481 features a 1280 × 1024 resolution detector with 8 µm pixels and thermal sensitivity below 30 mK. It delivers four times the pixel count of VGA A-Series cameras while maintaining the compact form factor of FLIR’s A67xx platform.
The camera provides radiometric thermal measurements that allow engineers to examine temperature variations across individual components and larger assemblies. Compatibility with microscope and macro optics enables detailed measurements of smaller features.
The A8481 includes GigE Vision, GenICam, and CoaXPress connectivity with precision triggering and synchronization capabilities. Its integrated three-position motorized filter wheel extends its temperature measurement capabilities.
The camera also integrates with FLIR Research Studio Professional for thermal data acquisition and analysis. Windowed imaging modes allow frame rates of up to 13,733 Hz for capturing rapid thermal events.
The A8481 is available through FLIR’s global sales network and is compatible with existing A-Series mounting interfaces and optics, allowing researchers to upgrade their thermal imaging capabilities without substantially changing their testing setups.
