Lithium-metal battery testing demonstrates fast charging at 3.6C

By Michelle Froese | November 4, 2026

Blue Solutions has released new fast-charging test results for its Gen4 lithium-metal battery technology, which is being developed for electric vehicles (EVs).

In tests using 10 Ah nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) pouch cells, the batteries recovered 70% of their capacity in under 11.5 minutes at 40° C with a charging rate of 3.6C. At 25° C, the cells achieved the same 70% charge level in 14 minutes at a 3.0C charging rate.

The company also evaluated charging performance at a constant 4C rate. Under these conditions, the cells reached 65% charge at 40° C and 57% at 25° C. Testing was conducted under 6 bar of applied pressure.

Blue Solutions’ Gen4 technology is being developed to achieve energy densities exceeding 400 Wh/kg, with the potential to extend EV driving range. The company has also reported cycle-life performance approaching 900 cycles as part of its ongoing development program.

The latest results demonstrate the fast-charging capabilities of the Gen4 lithium-metal chemistry under controlled test conditions. Development and testing are continuing as Blue Solutions works toward automotive applications.
