WACKER silicone materials address EV battery thermal management and safety

By Michelle Froese | October 2, 2026

WACKER will present silicone materials for battery thermal management and thermal protection at The Battery Show 2026 from October 12 to 15, 2026, in Detroit (Booth 4422). The materials are designed for applications, including electric vehicle (EV) battery packs, power electronics, and other electronic systems.

Battery pack design places several demands on thermal management materials, including heat transfer, dispensing, curing, adhesion, and temperature stability. WACKER will highlight materials intended to address these requirements across battery pack and electronics applications.

ELASTOSIL RT 7650 TC VS A/B is a low-viscosity, self-leveling silicone potting compound for battery pack, power, and electronics applications.

The two-part material offers primerless adhesion and adjustable thermal conductivity from 1.2 to 3.0 W/m·K. Its low sedimentation is designed to simplify re-homogenization and dispensing during production.

For thermal runaway protection, ELASTOSIL CM 146 US A/B is a sprayable silicone coating for flexible barrier systems in battery applications. The material remains deformable after curing and forms a hard ceramic shield at temperatures above 600° C to provide thermal insulation during a thermal runaway event. It also provides room-temperature curing and low volatile content.

WACKER will also present SEMICOSIL PE 9351 TC VS A/B, a two-component thermally conductive adhesive for automotive battery and electronics assembly. The material provides thermal conductivity up to 2.0 W/m·K, non-slump dispensing, room-temperature curing, and UL 94 V-0 flame-retardant performance. It is intended for changing battery pack designs, including module-to-pack and cell-to-pack architectures.
