LG Energy Solution has outlined plans to expand cylindrical battery manufacturing for electric vehicles (EVs), including the start of US production of 46-series cells by the end of 2026.
The company also plans to add production lines for tabless 2170 batteries for hybrid electric vehicles in 2027. Its North American cylindrical battery manufacturing capacity is expected to exceed 20 GWh by the end of that year.
In Europe, LG Energy Solution has increased production volumes and extended existing supply agreements for its high-voltage mid-nickel Gen2 batteries. The company also plans to establish local manufacturing capabilities for 46-series cylindrical cells by 2029, expanding its existing pouch-cell production portfolio.
The developments are part of LG Energy Solution’s efforts to diversify its battery technologies and expand regional manufacturing capabilities for automotive applications.
