BorgWarner is showcasing a redesigned version of its LFP Compact Pack for electric commercial vehicle applications, with an updated architecture aimed at reducing weight, footprint, and system cost while improving battery efficiency and service life.
The battery uses lithium iron phosphate blade cells in a cell-to-pack architecture designed to increase packaging efficiency within the available space. The fast-charging LFP configuration offers a volumetric energy density of up to 280 Wh/L.
The Compact Pack incorporates active liquid cooling along with integrated voltage and temperature monitoring. Battery management functions include state-of-charge and state-of-health analysis, while an integrated contactor box and multi-pack controller are designed to simplify integration into commercial vehicle battery systems.
The battery can charge from 10 to 80% state of charge in approximately 30 minutes. Its modular architecture allows packs to be connected in series or parallel to accommodate different vehicle energy and voltage requirements.
The system is designed around ISO 26262 functional safety and ISO 21434 cybersecurity requirements and carries IP67 and IP6K9K protection ratings for commercial vehicle operating environments.
