This new 220-kW output dc fast charger has a footprint of just 3.48 ft

By Michelle Froese | July 8, 2024

Wallbox Chargers has released the Supernova 220, the next generation of their Supernova dc fast charger. This new charger is capable of charging at a speed of up to 220 kW, allowing it to fully charge a passenger EV for up to 100 miles in just eight minutes.

So far, the company has sold over 2,000 of their dc fast chargers in more than 30 countries worldwide. The launch of the Supernova 220 provides charge point operators with a wider range of power options within the Supernova family.

This allows them to broaden their EV charging network with chargers that have been proven reliable and dependable. Ultimately, introducing this new product ensures that CPOs can install the most suitable power model for each site, without compromising reliability or customer experience.

The 220-kW version of Supernova, known for its award-winning and compact design, offers efficiency benefits to charge point operators and customers. Despite being the same size as other Supernova models, this version is the most powerful yet, able to charge one EV at up to 220 kW or two EVs simultaneously at up to 110 kW each.

By increasing the power without increasing the cost of installation, maintenance, and space, the return on investment for charge point operators is improved, especially in high volume locations.

“At Wallbox, our aim is to ensure that EV charging is simple and accessible to all drivers, which means offering reliable solutions that meet the needs of a range of locations,” said Till Wilmschen, director of dc fast charging at Wallbox. “Supernova 220 fills the current need for high-power charging sites, capable of providing 10 to 15 minute charging times for passenger EVs, as well as serving the high power charging demands at private and public sites for fleets, electric trucks, buses and heavy goods vehicles.”

Supernova 220 features

  • High power, even smaller footprint ratio: Supernova 220 serves both low and high-voltage EVs, providing up to 220 kW of power and optimizing space with its high power density.
  • Award-winning design: Its sleek, distinctive design allows for custom branding, making it perfect for public and highly visible locations such as car parks, shopping centers, and dealerships.
  • Dc meter law compliant: Due to its metering windows, prominently displayed below the touchscreen and dc metering options, Supernova 220 is fully compliant with the latest AFIR regulations without the need for any accessories.
