Southwire Company LLC has invested in Orange Charger, a provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging systems for multi-family housing. The move targets a common EV adoption gap for renters who need access to home charging where parking and electrical capacity can be limited.

Southwire and Orange Charger plan to develop installation packages and material bundles aimed at simplifying EV charger deployments at apartment and condo properties and reducing installation costs for owners.
Orange Charger’s hardware and software are designed to support shared, lower-power charging that can fit existing electrical service and avoid major upgrades. The company says this approach can cut installation costs compared with traditional setups.
Orange’s platform uses a mesh network and edge-compute system that allows chargers to operate without relying on managed Wi-Fi or LTE extenders, including in garages and other low-signal areas.
Southwire and Orange Charger said they will work to expand multifamily EV charging deployments and explore related energy management offerings.
