Ampere has announced a collaboration with STMicroelectronics to develop its PowerBox platform, an advanced solution that incorporates silicon carbide (SiC) technology.
This collaboration addresses the growing need for efficient power conversion across industries, including electric vehicles (EVs) and industrial power systems. It includes a long-term supply agreement, ensuring Ampere has access to the critical SiC components required for the platform’s production.
A centerpiece of the PowerBox platform is its application in the inverter for Ampere’s ultra-efficient electric powertrain. The platform leverages SiC’s superior thermal and switching capabilities to enhance energy efficiency, reduce weight, and maximize the performance of electric vehicles.
These benefits directly support the evolving needs of EV manufacturers striving for greater power density and operational reliability while minimizing environmental impact.
By securing a consistent supply of SiC components from STMicroelectronics, Ampere reinforces its commitment to advancing EV powertrain technologies. This partnership aligns with the industry’s push toward high-efficiency, sustainable mobility solutions, ensuring that Ampere remains at the forefront of innovation in the EV market.
STMicroelectronics and Ampere have collaborated on a PowerBox for the supply of energy to Ampere’s new generation of electric motors. It’s designed for optimum performance-size ratio across Ampere’s line-up, on 400-V battery EV vehicles and for Segment C-EVs with 800-V batteries, enabling greater autonomy and faster charging.
The 800-V is one of the key levers to achieve the 10 to 80% quick charge in 15 minutes or less. This agreement is fully aligned with Ampere’s strategy to master the entire value chain of the EV, particularly by working further upstream with its partners and ensuring the best efficiency at each step.
