Showcasing battery testing and certification services at The Battery Show

By Michelle Froese | October 2, 2025

UL Solutions will exhibit at The Battery Show North America 2025 in Detroit, Michigan, from October 6th to 9th (Booth 3008). The company will highlight its testing, certification, and validation services designed to help manufacturers navigate complex global standards, reduce risk, and bring safer battery products to market.

The Battery Show is North America’s largest showcase of advanced battery and electric vehicle innovation, bringing together engineers, business leaders, and innovators to explore the future of electrification.

UL Solutions offers a broad range of services to evaluate the safety, performance, and reliability of batteries and related materials. These include:

  • Battery Enclosure Material Screening (BEMS): Screening services to help material manufacturers, suppliers, and automotive OEMs select EV battery enclosure materials with greater confidence. This includes testing material plaques versus full assemblies to manage cost and development time, supporting R&D with formula and construction screening, and enabling performance comparisons across materials.
  • Battery Enclosure Thermal Runaway (BETR) Evaluation: Using UL 2596, this methodology evaluates enclosure material performance by simulating thermal runaway conditions.
  • Surface Tracking Test (STT) for Transportation Applications: Developed for EV architectures operating between 600 and 900 V, this method provides guidance on material performance and selection for automotive manufacturers.
  • Torch and Grit (TaG) Test: Designed to replicate the dynamic stresses of thermal runaway, focusing on temperature and mechanical abrasion.

Beyond materials, UL Solutions also provides battery and energy storage testing, validation, and certification. Services include:

  • Certification of battery cells to applicable industry standards
  • Testing for electric and hybrid vehicle cells, modules, and packs, including lifecycle, performance, abuse, and ingress protection evaluations
  • Testing for portable lithium-ion battery packs used in consumer electronics
  • UL 9540A thermal runaway fire propagation testing for energy storage systems
  • Evaluation and certification for residential, commercial, and utility-scale ESS

UL Solutions also provides automotive electrical safety and component performance testing, ensuring compliance at both the component and system level.

To support automotive manufacturers locally, the UL Solutions Novi, Michigan EMC and Wireless Laboratory offers comprehensive EMC testing with OEM-specific programs and expertise in the heart of the automotive industry.
