Shielded 1000BASE-T1 connector addresses high-speed vehicle networking

By Michelle Froese | September 8, 2026

Hirose has introduced the GT37 Series wire-to-board connector for high-speed automotive Ethernet applications.

As electrified vehicle architectures incorporate more electronic control units, cameras, sensors, displays, and communication modules, maintaining signal integrity in electrically noisy environments becomes increasingly important.

The GT37 Series uses a fully shielded connector structure designed to reduce electromagnetic interference and maintain transmission performance.

The connector supports 1000BASE-T1 automotive Ethernet, enabling Gigabit data transmission over a single twisted-pair cable. The single-pair architecture can reduce wiring volume compared with larger multi-pair Ethernet connections, which can help simplify vehicle harness design.

The GT37 Series also incorporates impedance matching at the stripped-cable section to maintain signal performance through the termination area. Its sleeve design eliminates the need for commercial copper tape during shield termination, while the cable preparation process does not require the inner sheath to be cut.

The connector is compatible with standard automotive harnesses and does not require dedicated processing equipment. A two-position interface measures 8.6 mm wide by 10.6 mm high for use in space-constrained vehicle electronics.

A dual-lock mechanism provides tactile confirmation that the connector is fully mated and securely locked, helping reduce the risk of incomplete engagement or unintended disconnection.

The GT37 Series is intended for automotive Ethernet networks carrying high-bandwidth data between electronic systems as vehicle connectivity and electrification increase.
