Schreiner ProTech expands film-based components to support EV electronics

By Michelle Froese | December 4, 2025

This year, Schreiner ProTech, a Germany-based developer and manufacturer of functional film-based components, introduced several updates to its solutions portfolio for automotive and industrial electronics.

These additions address emerging requirements driven by the growth of electric mobility, including increased electronic density, lightweight design needs, pressure management in sealed housings, and protection of sensitive components operating in harsh environments.

Schreiner ProTech’s pressure compensation and protective technologies are designed for production-friendly integration into existing electronic assemblies while maintaining long-term reliability. New or enhanced solutions for 2025 include:

Modular Kit for pressure compensation requirements

As electric vehicles (EVs) incorporate more tightly packaged electronics and sensor housings, managing internal pressure and moisture becomes critical. The PCS HighProtect modular kit provides film-based pressure compensation seals that can be tailored to specific design spaces, load profiles, and process environments.

Variants produced under cleanroom conditions meet Technical Cleanliness requirements, and compatible application systems support automated assembly with reduced process risk.

Film-based covers as lightweight closures

For housings with limited design space, which are common in EV power electronics, battery sensing modules, and compact control units, Schreiner ProTech’s Film-Based Cover (FBC) provides an alternative to conventional plastic covers.

The flat, lightweight structure can incorporate pressure compensation and marking features while eliminating a separate component. Laser welding enables durable bonding, and roll-based packaging supports automated processing. Customizable shapes and materials help reduce tooling needs and overall component complexity.

Protective films for large displays

As larger and pillar-to-pillar displays become more common in EV interiors, manufacturers require protective solutions that support handling and functional testing.

Schreiner ProTech’s slightly adhesive protective film secures to display glass without leaving residues, protects sensitive electronics through an antistatic finish, and maintains high transparency for testing. The film also supports printed or laser-applied markings for streamlined assembly workflows.

Looking ahead to 2026, Schreiner ProTech plans further developments in material integration, process automation, and customer-specific configurations across its portfolio of film-based functional solutions.
