AMETEK Programmable Power has been recognized with the company’s internal 2025 Innovation Award for its Sorensen Mi-BEAM (Modular Intelligent-Bidirectional Energy AMplified) Series, a system designed to test and simulate complex, high-power electronics.
The Mi-BEAM platform provides full dc source and sink capabilities, supporting power levels from 12.5 to 37.5 kW per unit and scaling up to 1.2 MW in parallel configurations. Available voltage ranges include 600 and 2,000 Vdc, delivering up to 150A per channel in a compact 4U chassis. T
his makes it well-suited for applications such as EV battery development, charging system validation, energy storage, solar, and grid modernization.
By simulating charging and discharging conditions, Mi-BEAM helps manufacturers evaluate how rechargeable batteries and power systems respond under demanding real-world scenarios. Its modular design reduces system size by more than 50%, integrates software for battery and solar simulation, and enables faster voltage and current rise times, thereby improving testing efficiency and safety.
Developed through collaboration between US and India engineering teams, the Mi-BEAM series also incorporates customer feedback and value engineering processes to streamline manufacturing and reduce costs.
The Innovation Award, created by AMETEK in 2019, recognizes the most significant new technology developments across its businesses. This year’s recognition underscores Mi-BEAM’s role in enabling more efficient testing of EV batteries and other advanced energy systems.
