QuantumScape Corporation announced the inauguration of its Eagle Line at its facility in San Jose, CA. The Eagle Line is a production-scale platform intended to support the development and validation of solid-state lithium-metal batteries for automotive applications, including electric vehicles (EVs).
Solid-state battery technology is widely viewed as a potential pathway to higher energy density, improved safety, and faster charging compared with conventional lithium-ion batteries, making it of particular interest for next-generation vehicle platforms.
The Eagle Line consists of a suite of equipment, materials, and automated processes designed to serve as a blueprint for manufacturing QuantumScape’s solid-state battery technology.
The line incorporates the company’s Cobra process, a scalable manufacturing method used to produce its proprietary solid-state separator.
Once ramped, the Eagle Line is expected to produce battery cells to support customer sampling, testing, technology demonstrations, and product integration efforts. The platform is also intended to demonstrate scalable production capability, enabling potential licensing partners to manufacture QuantumScape’s technology at gigawatt-hour scale within their own facilities.
In addition to supporting customer programs, the Eagle Line will function as a development platform for further process optimization and technology improvements at meaningful production volumes. This capability is intended to support ongoing efforts to advance the manufacturability and readiness of solid-state battery technology for automotive use.
