PVDF production facility to expand to meet rising EV battery demand

By Michelle Froese | March 4, 2025

Arkema is investing approximately $20 million to expand the capacity of its polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) production facility in Calvert City, Kentucky, by 15%.

This expansion aligns with the increasing demand for high-performance resins used in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems and applications in the semiconductor and cable industries.

The Calvert City plant has been a key PVDF manufacturing site for years. The latest expansion will focus on advanced PVDF grades that enhance battery performance and sustainability while supporting North America’s growing EV and gigafactory production capacity.

The project is expected to be operational by mid-2026, coinciding with the expansion of local battery manufacturing and semiconductor capabilities.

Arkema operates PVDF production facilities in the United States, China, and France, ensuring a global supply network. These sites have recently increased capacity capacity to keep pace with industry demand.

With expertise in specialty materials, Arkema continues to develop solutions that support EV battery advancements, energy storage, and sustainable mobility. The company remains focused on expanding production capabilities to meet the evolving needs of clean energy technologies.
