PowerXAct Active Filter offers power quality management in EV charging sites

By Michelle Froese | December 16, 2025

Powerside has introduced the PowerXAct Low Voltage Active Filter, a modular active harmonic filtering solution designed for low-voltage electrical systems where power quality, space constraints, and scalability are key considerations.

The system is intended for applications that include electric vehicle (EV) charging installations, where high concentrations of power-electronic loads can introduce harmonics, reactive power issues, and load imbalance.

PowerXAct builds on the core functionality of Powerside’s existing low-voltage active filtering platforms in a more compact and flexible form factor. The system provides real-time compensation for current harmonics, reactive power, and phase imbalance, supporting cleaner power delivery in four-wire electrical systems commonly used in commercial and industrial facilities.

In EV charging environments, particularly fleet depots, public charging hubs, and commercial buildings with multiple Level-2 or dc fast chargers, non-linear loads can stress upstream electrical infrastructure. Active filtering solutions, such as PowerXAct are used to mitigate harmonic distortion, improve power factor, and help maintain compliance with utility and equipment operating limits as charging capacity scales.

The PowerXAct filter is designed for integration into both new and existing electrical installations and supports flexible mounting configurations to accommodate space-constrained deployments. Its modular design allows engineers to size and expand filtering capacity based on site load profiles and future charging growth.

In addition to hardware solutions, Powerside provides power quality engineering services to support system design, equipment specification, and troubleshooting. These services can be applied to EV charging projects where understanding system response to dynamic charging loads is critical to long-term reliability and performance.
