Frontier Lithium announced that it has entered into process agreements with Deer Lake First Nation and Sandy Lake First Nation related to the advancement of its lithium project in Ontario.
The agreements establish a structured framework for engagement as technical studies and permitting activities progress under Ontario’s One Project, One Process (1P1P) regulatory framework.
The project sits upstream of electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing supply chains, with permitting progress affecting the availability and timing of battery-grade lithium production.
The process agreements are intended to provide structure, transparency, and predictability for all parties as regulatory reviews advance. They outline expectations for early engagement, information sharing, and participation throughout Indigenous and Crown approval processes, while recognizing Anishinninew laws and protocols and maintaining environmental review requirements.
With the implementation of the agreements and the 1P1P framework, Frontier is positioned to advance permitting in a coordinated manner aligned with provincial regulatory requirements, while maintaining consultation and environmental oversight. The agreements build on exploration agreements that have been in place with the participating First Nations since 2016.
The framework is intended to support the evaluation of potential all-season road access, as well as the potential construction and operation of a mine and mill, within Ontario’s stated objective of reducing government review timelines while preserving environmental protections and Indigenous participation.
