Plug’n Drive and Call2Recycle Canada have established a partnership to incorporate electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling education into youth-focused EV learning programs across Canada.
The initiative adds battery end-of-life and materials recovery concepts to Plug’n Drive’s EV Awareness Student Learning Program, delivered in collaboration with Skills Council of Canada for students in grades 7–12.
From an EV systems and lifecycle perspective, the updated curriculum introduces students to battery stewardship, including repair, remanufacturing, resale, repurposing, and recycling pathways.
Educational content covers how EV batteries are collected, transported, processed, and reintegrated into the materials supply chain, with an emphasis on reducing environmental impact and supporting circular use of critical materials.
The program integrates battery recycling topics into existing science, technology, environmental studies, and applied learning modules using presentations, demonstrations, and hands-on activities. Call2Recycle contributes technical context on battery handling, safety, and material recovery processes relevant to EV battery systems operating at scale.
As EV adoption increases, workforce and education stakeholders are placing greater emphasis on lifecycle awareness alongside vehicle operation and charging infrastructure. The collaboration reflects a broader industry focus on preparing future workers to understand both EV technologies and the material flows required to support long-term electrification.
Skills Council of Canada supports the program by aligning educational delivery with emerging clean-technology workforce needs, connecting students to applied learning tied to EV systems, battery technologies, and sustainability considerations.
