Bluewater, a logistics and regulatory compliance solutions provider, has released a simplified Reference Guide for electric vehicle (EV) and industrial lithium battery shipping. This latest resource simplifies the often-complex requirements surrounding the shipment of EV lithium batteries.
The new EV and Industrial Lithium Battery Shipping Guide offers clear, structured information to support compliance with US Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. It includes direct links to relevant sections of official DOT documentation to make locating specific rules easier.
The guide addresses various battery conditions — damaged, end-of-life, and fully functional — and outlines the different packaging and labeling requirements associated with each. For example, damaged batteries must be packed in non-metallic inner containers with outer packaging rated for Packing Group I.
Loose battery cells require non-metallic enclosures to prevent short circuits, while batteries with robust outer casings can be secured directly to pallets.
By combining regulatory references with practical examples, the guide serves as a useful reference tool for professionals involved in the transport of lithium batteries.
