New high-voltage connector solution delivers increased vibration resistance

By Michelle Froese | October 22, 2024

In the fast-paced automotive industry, the power of connections is more critical than ever. Engineers and OEMs are under constant pressure to enhance the driving experience while adapting designs to changing vehicle architectures and platforms and addressing consumer demand for safer, more advanced, and electrified vehicles.

The AMP+ Bolted Interconnection System.

TE Connectivity, a global provider of connectivity and sensors, is helping meet these demands with the AMP+ Bolted Interconnection System. This serviceable, “screw-down” connector solution delivers increased vibration resistance for electric vehicle (EV) main drivetrain circuits.

Bolt-down systems require fewer moving parts, compared with lever-based systems, reducing the potential for mechanical failures and increasing the longevity of the connection system.

The new Class 6 connector solution provides a highly reliable connection (via copper or aluminum busbars) to deliver electricity between an EV’s battery and its e-motor, or from the charging inlet’s dc connection into the battery.

Features

Designed for high-performance energy transfer, the AMP+ Bolted Interconnection System offers:

Flexibility

  • Round or flat wire or busbar
  • Shielded or unshielded
  • Wire sizes: 95 – 200 mm²

Thermal performance

  • From 600-1000 AMPs continuous at 85° C
  • Copper or aluminum wire
  • Can be welded or crimped
  • Up to 1000 V

A screw-down solution

  • Assures a strong connection
  • IPxxB finger protection
  • Automation-enabled

A reduced C02 footprint

  • Manufactured with recycled plastics

Ultra-low resistance

  • Delivers optimal electrical, thermal, and mechanical performance

Advantages

The AMP+ Bolted Interconnection System offers several benefits, including:

  • Versatility — it accepts copper or aluminum, rigid or flexible, round or flat, shielded or unshielded conductors up to 200 mm2
  • Contact ring terminals can be welded or clinched
  • Flexible welding for aluminum, including friction or torsional ultrasonic
  • Screw-down terminations assure strong electrical and mechanical connections, with low resistance — based on TE’s well-established, touch-safe BCON+ system
  • Can be configured for active (fluid) or passive cooling and temperature sensing
  • Sustainably manufactured, with recycled plastics to reduce carbon footprint
  • Compact and lightweight
