New dc meter for EV fast-charging infrastructure with bidirectional monitoring

By Michelle Froese | June 10, 2025

Accuenergy Inc., a developer of power and energy measurement solutions, has launched the AcuDC 300 EV Charging Meter, a revenue-grade dc energy meter engineered for high-precision measurement in electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging infrastructure.

AcuDC 300 Series EV Fast Charging Application

Engineered with 0.1% accuracy across 60 to 1000 Vdc, the AcuDC 300 is MID certified and compliant with IEC 62053-41:2021 Class 0.5 and EN 50470-4 Class C standards, supporting accurate billing in commercial EV charging applications.

Key features include bidirectional energy measurement, cable loss compensation, anti-tamper protection, built-in data logging, Modbus RTU and TCP/IP communication protocols, and OCMF output for integration with billing and backend systems.

As EV platforms transition to higher voltages to facilitate ultra-fast charging, advanced metering technology becomes crucial for precise measurement, compliance, and reliable communication. Many top-tier EV models now require up to 1000 V, pushing infrastructure requirements beyond the capabilities of traditional metering.

The AcuDC 300 addresses these evolving demands by providing precise monitoring of dc power consumption, bidirectional energy flow, and secure data generation for billing and reporting. Its compact 35mm DIN-rail design allows flexible installation within charging stations while maintaining accuracy.

Ideal for advanced EV use cases such as vehicle-to-grid (V2G) systems, the AcuDC 300 offers detailed monitoring of both charging and discharging cycles. This is critical for operational insight, performance tracking, and revenue-grade billing accuracy.

With certifications under EU Directive 2014/32/EU and compliance with key IEC and EN standards, the AcuDC 300 meets stringent legal metrology requirements for long-term stability and anti-tampering protection. These certifications support deployment in regulated international markets where energy data must meet legal invoicing requirements.

Features

  • Cable loss compensation. In EV charging, energy loss can occur between the power source and the vehicle due to resistance in the cable. The AcuDC 300 compensates for these losses to ensure billing reflects only the energy delivered to the vehicle.
  • Anti-tamper protection. A two-level anti-tampering system secures metrology data. The electronic seal switch prevents unauthorized changes, while a physical seal adds an additional layer of protection, helping preserve data integrity in regulated environments.
  • OCMF data format support. The meter outputs data in the Open Charge Metering Format (OCMF), an industry-standard protocol for exchanging signed energy data between charging stations and backend systems. This ensures interoperability and promotes trust across EV infrastructure platforms.
  • Built-in datalogging. Three independently programmable data loggers and a trend logger record energy use and system performance metrics. Non-volatile memory preserves data during power interruptions, maintaining a complete performance history.
  • Modbus RTU and TCP/IP communication. To support system integration, the meter includes Modbus RTU over RS485 and Modbus TCP/IP over Ethernet. Compatibility with SCADA, EMS, and billing platforms is enhanced by dual-protocol support. When paired with Accuenergy’s AcuView 2 software, users can access real-time data, perform diagnostics, and configure settings remotely over the network.
