Harbinger, a manufacturer of medium-duty electric vehicles (EVs), has named Panasonic Energy as its official battery cell supplier.
Panasonic Energy’s lithium-ion cells will be integrated into Harbinger’s proprietary battery system, which powers its US-assembled electric vehicle (EV) platform.
Panasonic will supply its 2170-format battery cells, which feature an energy density exceeding 800 Wh/L, to support all current and future Harbinger vehicle models. Initial shipments will be sourced from Panasonic’s facilities in Japan and delivered to Harbinger’s production site in Garden Grove, California.
Future plans include expanding to US-based cell production from Panasonic Energy’s facility in De Soto, Kansas. This transition would enable Harbinger’s full battery pack assembly to be sourced and manufactured entirely within the United States — marking a milestone for the commercial vehicle sector.
Harbinger’s EV platform, built on a stripped chassis design, is engineered for use in walk-in vans, box trucks, delivery vehicles, RVs, and emergency response units. All major vehicle systems, including the electric drivetrain and high-voltage battery, are developed in-house. Harbinger began production in early 2025 and is working to fulfill approximately 5,000 customer pre-orders, including Bimbo Bakeries USA and THOR Industries.
Panasonic Energy’s 2170 cylindrical cells have been widely deployed across the EV industry and are recognized for their safety, reliability, and energy efficiency. As of March 2025, the company has shipped approximately 19 billion lithium-ion EV cells globally, with no vehicle recalls linked to battery defects.
