Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH has introduced the TPD7110F, an automotive-qualified ideal diode controller designed for power path protection and redundant power configurations in vehicle systems, including battery management systems (BMS), body control modules (BCM), and head-up displays (HUD).
The TPD7110F provides reverse-polarity protection to help prevent damage caused by battery connection errors. Redundant power architectures are increasingly used in automotive designs, particularly in electrified vehicles, where power integrity and fault tolerance are critical.
The device integrates a built-in charge pump circuit with an internal capacitor and is used in combination with an external N-channel MOSFET to form a low-loss ideal diode configuration.
The controller is offered in Toshiba’s PS-8 package, measuring 2.9 × 2.8 mm, reducing mounting area compared to conventional MSOP-8 packages and supporting higher-density PCB layouts in space-constrained automotive modules.
A reverse-current blocking function monitors the drain-source voltage (VDS) across the external MOSFET to prevent current from flowing from the load back to the battery. This supports redundant power system design and controlled load switching. When paired with back-to-back MOSFETs, the device can also function as an electronically controlled ON/OFF load switch.
The reverse current blocking function can be disabled in applications that require bidirectional energy flow, such as systems that allow energy to return to the battery.
The TPD7110F has a typical operating current of 100 µA and a standby current of 2 µA, supporting low quiescent current requirements in automotive and electric vehicle subsystems where overall system power budgets must be carefully managed.
