BASF and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL) have signed a framework agreement for cathode active materials (CAM), a critical component of lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles (EVs).
As EV adoption continues to rise globally, securing reliable, high-quality sources of battery materials is essential for scaling production.
Under the agreement, BASF will support CATL’s global manufacturing footprint through its own international production network. The collaboration is designed to improve the resilience and efficiency of the EV battery supply chain, with localized material production close to key markets in Europe, Asia, and North America.
CATL, one of the world’s largest EV battery manufacturers, has selected BASF as a key supplier in its global strategy.
“Our diversified and local production footprint for innovative cathode materials will support CATL’s global business development,” said Dr. Daniel Schönfelder, president of BASF’s Battery Materials division. “We are committed to the global battery industry and continue leveraging partnerships like the one between CATL and BASF Battery Materials.”
