Magna secures Chery program for 250-kW 800-V eDrive

By Michelle Froese | July 29, 2026

Magna has secured a program with Chery to supply a 250-kW, 800-V two-speed electric drive system for future battery-electric vehicles.

Production will take place at Magna’s new facility in Wuhu, China. The integrated eDrive is based on the company’s modular electrification platform and is designed to support multiple vehicle applications and global architectures.

The 800-V system combines the motor, inverter, and transmission in a compact package. Magna says the two-speed design is intended to improve power density, energy efficiency, and vehicle performance.

“This new 800-V eDrive award with Chery reflects how we support OEMs as they move forward, whether through electric, hybrid, or mixed-technology strategies,” said Diba Ilunga, president of Magna Powertrain.

The program follows the start of production of Magna’s DHD Duo dedicated hybrid drive system for Chery’s Jetour G700. That program was first announced in 2024 and is now in series production.

Magna did not disclose the vehicle platform or production timing for the new 800-V eDrive program.
