Legacy EV, a US-based electric vehicle (EV) education and training company, has launched the first phase of an EV workforce development program in Guyana. The initiative is being delivered in partnership with the United Nations as part of the country’s national Just Energy Transition Project.
While this program is based in Guyana, the training approach reflects broader challenges also facing North America, where demand for EV-skilled labor continues to outpace the availability of standardized education and high-voltage safety training.
Guyana’s LCDS 2030 emphasizes early preparation for electrification-related jobs rather than reacting after large-scale adoption begins. The program highlights how structured EV education and public–private collaboration can play a role in workforce readiness across regions undergoing transportation electrification.
The collaboration supports Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy 2030 (LCDS 2030), a national framework focused on low-carbon growth, renewable energy integration, and long-term workforce development tied to emerging clean transportation sectors.
Earlier in December, Legacy EV completed a multi-day, hands-on EV training program for more than 20 Guyanese trainees. The program covered high-voltage safety fundamentals, core EV system concepts, and practical demonstrations intended to establish baseline technical knowledge for future EV-related roles. This marks the first operational step in a multi-year partnership aimed at preparing Guyana’s workforce for electric mobility adoption.
During the visit, Legacy EV worked alongside United Nations teams, government representatives, and local technical experts to:
- Deliver classroom-based and hands-on EV instruction
- Assess national EV workforce and training needs
- Support long-term curriculum development
- Align education pathways with LCDS 2030 objectives
This initiative serves as a potential model for similar workforce development efforts in other countries as EV adoption expands globally.
Founded in the United States, Legacy EV focuses on EV education, technical training, and workforce readiness, primarily supporting technicians, educators, and institutions navigating the transition from internal combustion to electric platforms.
