Infineon Technologies has introduced the OPTIREG TLE9744QK, a power-management IC for high-voltage traction inverter applications in hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs).
The device combines power-supply management with resolver excitation and a dedicated safety engine in a single IC for traction inverter electronic control units. It’s designed to simplify the isolated power architecture needed to support the inverter’s control, communication, and sensing circuitry.
By replacing several discrete functions, the TLE9744QK can reduce component count and system complexity. Infineon says the corresponding PCB footprint can be reduced by up to 70%.
The IC can generate the resolver excitation signal internally, removing the need for separate resolver driver and monitoring circuitry. It’s also designed to work with a range of microcontrollers and gate drivers, allowing existing control platforms to be used with less hardware redesign.
For functional safety, the device includes Integrated Safety Logic that independently supervises inverter operating conditions while monitoring the health of the MCU and gate drivers. If the main controller fails, the safety path can determine and enforce a safe state.
A redundant supply input keeps the safety logic operating if the main low-voltage supply fails. Infineon says the device was developed for ASIL-D compliance in accordance with ISO 26262.
This version keeps the important engineering detail without making every paragraph feel like a catalogue of features.
