Innovative smart alert system maximizes EV charging efficiency

By Michelle Froese | September 25, 2024

EverCharge, a provider of large-scale electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions and part of SK Group, has introduced real-time visual smart alerts. These include mobile notifications and in-field LED lights, representing a unique approach to enhancing charging operational efficiency.

These simple and powerful solutions are designed to address the everyday inefficiencies faced by fleet managers and vehicle attendants by addressing common challenges, including immediate status notifications, delayed action times, and low charger utilization rates.

Often, fleet managers are not immediately aware when a vehicle has finished charging, leading them to believe that charger utilization rates are much higher than they are, as dwell times can significantly exceed the actual charging requirements.

Although dashboard-based software solutions and apps can display the charge status for each vehicle, they require periodic logins and additional steps from fleet managers or vehicle attendants to check vehicle status. In larger fleets or multiple locations, manual checks can also increase the likelihood of human errors, which can result in fully charged vehicles remaining connected to charging stations longer than needed.

The visual and audio smart alerts simplify the process for fleet operators by providing instant notifications about where action is needed, maximizing the effectiveness of their existing charging infrastructure. These real-time alerts facilitate prompt responses and integrate smoothly into the daily routines of fleet attendants, enhancing operational efficiency and utilization rates. Additionally, these visual alerts eliminate language and technical barriers.

Powered by EverCharge’s patented SmartPower technology, visual smart alerts are activated by charging statuses to further simplify charging operations and improve infrastructure utilization rates. For example, while SmartPower manages load balancing in real time, the in-field LED lights provide a visual cue that can be seen from a distance. When a vehicle finishes charging, immediate action is prompted.

Additionally, mobile alerts provide site managers with real-time notifications, adding another layer of efficiency. Together, these smart alerts seamlessly integrate into existing operations, enabling faster charging for more vehicles.

Early adoption data from an EverCharge fleet customer indicated a 41% charging efficiency increase through the in-field LED light installation within a year of installation. When combining in-field LED lights with mobile notifications, these smart alerts are designed to help customers realize even more operational efficiencies.

“This new approach will provide our customers, especially those who manage large fleets, with the ability to significantly scale their efficiency,” said Jeffrey Kinsey, VP of engineering at EverCharge. “With these new real-time smart alerts, fleet and site managers won’t have to worry about the extra step of signing into an app each time they need a charging update. The notifications will simply be available to them through mobile alerts and visually with the in-field LED lights so they can take action right away.”
