The Matrix Charging Interest Group (MCIG) has launched an industry effort to standardize Matrix Charging, an automated conductive charging system for electric vehicles (EVs), developed by Austrian technology company Easelink. The group aims to support EV adoption by creating a common charging interface that works across vehicles and automated charging installations.

Vehicle manufacturers worldwide are incorporating Matrix Charging into series development plans for future platforms. They’re seeking standardization to ensure interoperability between vehicles and automated charging infrastructure.
MCIG positions itself as a complement to ongoing ISO and IEC work. The group will provide industry-led coordination focused on Matrix Charging so that interface parameters and specifications can be aligned on timelines that match series development.
MCIG uses a Fair, Reasonable, And Non-Discriminatory (FRAND) licensing policy to give developers access to essential patents and support competitive product development.
MCIG is chaired by Menno Treffers, who has experience in interface standardization. He previously served as chairman of the Wireless Power Consortium and secretary general of the Zhaga Consortium.
Founding members include Audi, Easelink, Nissan, and Voyah. Companies with a strategic interest in Matrix Charging development and market rollout are invited to participate in the standardization effort.
