Ideal Power expands B-TRAN work with Stellantis for EV battery systems

By Michelle Froese | August 14, 2026

Ideal Power has delivered a second shipment of its next-generation B-TRAN bidirectional semiconductor samples and development kits to Stellantis for evaluation in electric vehicle (EV) applications.

The companies are analyzing Stellantis’ system-level requirements for a solid-state contactor and working to optimize the B-TRAN-based solution. Ideal Power said the work could support future EV contactor and battery disconnect unit applications.

B-TRAN is a bidirectional semiconductor power switch designed for applications that require current to flow in either direction. In an EV battery system, solid-state contactors could provide an electronic alternative to conventional electromechanical contactors used to connect and isolate the high-voltage battery.

Ideal Power is also developing an 800-V solid-state circuit breaker reference design based on B-TRAN technology as it expands the device into higher-voltage power distribution applications.

Ideal Power said it plans to continue developing B-TRAN-based solutions for EV contactors and battery disconnect units with global automakers.
