High-wattage PFC choke solutions for power conversion

By Michelle Froese | September 27, 2024

ITG Electronics, a manufacturer of magnetics and EMI filters, will showcase its growing portfolio of power factor correction chokes (PFCs) with a series of solutions for high-wattage scenarios at The Battery Show, October 7th to 10th at Huntington Place in Detroit (Booth 6006).

The company will highlight its recently introduced PFC282820 Series, suitable for 800-5000-Watt continuous conduction mode PFC boost converter applications.

Notably, the PFC282820 Series offers a slender footprint of just 27.5 x 20 mm, with a height of 28.5mm. ITG Electronics also offers a wider design (27.5 x 28.5 mm) also compatible with power systems up to 5,000 watts.

The PFC282820 Series is part of ITG Electronics’ broader Cubic Design PFC Choke series. Compared with traditional, toroidal-shaped PFC chokes, the offerings incorporate a flat wire and square core to save space and increase power density. The compact design elements align with higher power density requirements for current and near-future power conversion settings.

ITG Electronics’ range of PFC chokes is appropriate for ac-to-dc power conversion in automotive components manufacturing environments. The line’s space-saving, easy-to-assemble attributes help support these sectors’ high-volume production requirements.

PFC282820 Series PFC Chokes are suitable for Inductance ranges from 33-330uH, with custom values also available. The high-current output chokes can handle up to 46 Amp with approximately 50% roll off.
