High-temperature chip resistors for automotive systems

By Michelle Froese | August 6, 2026

Stackpole Electronics has introduced the RMHT series of AEC-qualified thick-film chip resistors for automotive, aerospace, and industrial systems operating at elevated temperatures.

The RMHT series maintains full-rated power at temperatures up to 105° C. Conventional thick-film resistors typically require power derating above 70° C. The higher operating threshold is intended to support electronics used in electric vehicle (EV) powertrains, battery-management systems, motor drives, and under-hood control modules.

The resistors are designed for applications where high ambient temperatures, continuous operation, and extended service life are important design considerations. Anti-sulfur protection verified to EIA-977 and 100% automated optical inspection support use in demanding operating environments.

Specifications include:

  • 0402, 0603, and 0805 package sizes
  • Resistance values from 1 Ω to 300 kΩ
  • Tolerances of 0.5%, 1%, and 5%
  • Temperature coefficients of resistance of 100 ppm/° C or 200 ppm/° C
  • Full-rated power operation up to 105° C

As EV and automotive electronics increase in power density, the RMHT series gives engineers an option for managing higher board temperatures without derating components at the conventional 70°C threshold.

Pricing varies by package size, resistance value, and tolerance. Volume pricing and application support are available through Stackpole and its authorized distribution partners.
