High-speed digital isolators support EV battery management and charging systems

By Michelle Froese | March 10, 2025

Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation has introduced its first lineup of 4-channel high-speed standard digital isolators for automotive applications, enhancing battery management systems (BMS) and on-board chargers (OBC) for electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid-electric vehicles.

The new DCM34xx01 Series includes ten devices with a high common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) of 100kV/μs (typ.) and a data transmission rate of 50Mbps (max), ensuring stable operation in high-noise EV environments. All devices conform to AEC-Q100 automotive standards, meeting safety and reliability requirements for modern vehicle architectures.

As EVs transition to higher voltage powertrains, isolation components prevent noise propagation and ensure high-speed, multi-channel communication in BMS, OBCs, and inverter control systems. Toshiba’s new isolators use a proprietary magnetic coupling transmission method, delivering robust noise immunity and low pulse-width distortion (0.8ns typ.).

With high-speed SPI interface support, these isolators enable real-time data transmission and enhanced system reliability for next-generation EV and industrial applications. Toshiba is expanding its lineup of automotive and industrial isolators, reinforcing its commitment to high-quality isolation solutions for advanced electrification.
