TDK Corporation has expanded its CGA series of automotive multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) to include a 10 µF, 100 V model in 3225 size (3.2 x 2.5 x 2.5 mm – L x W x H), featuring X7R characteristics (Class II dielectric). This represents the industry’s highest capacitance for a 100-V-rated MLCC in this size and temperature class.
As vehicle electronics become more sophisticated and power demands increase, especially with the growing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and 48 V systems, there’s a rising need for compact, high-capacitance components. These components support higher current loads while also contributing to overall system weight reduction — an important consideration in modern EV design.
Applications include smoothing and decoupling capacitors for power lines in automotive ECUs and 48-V subsystems.
The CGA series 100-V product achieves twice the capacity of previous products in the same footprint through optimized material selection and product design. This allows engineers to halve the number of capacitors required and reduce board space, enabling more compact and efficient electronic control systems.
TDK will continue to expand its MLCC lineup to support the evolving requirements of automotive and EV platforms. Mass production of the product series began in April 2025.
