HEVO has received US Patent No. 12,703,258 B2 for technology covering networked wireless charging infrastructure, vehicle connectivity, and software-based charging management.
The patented system connects wireless charging stations, location-enabled vehicles, and a centralized server to coordinate charging sessions. Vehicles can request charging while the server evaluates station availability, operating condition, occupancy, and geographic proximity before selecting and managing a charging location.
The technology also covers communication between vehicles and charging stations for reservation status, occupancy changes, and operating conditions. Safety functions include foreign-object detection and automatic shutdown of wireless power transfer when an object is detected near an active charging session.
Additional capabilities include charging-station discovery, vehicle-positioning assistance, charging-session management, and real-time communication between vehicles and charging infrastructure.
The new patent follows a recently issued HEVO patent covering dynamic roadway charging, which enables wireless power transfer to EVs while they are in motion. That technology also includes bidirectional energy flow for vehicle-to-grid and vehicle-to-infrastructure applications.
Together, the patents cover both stationary and in-motion wireless charging. The newer patent focuses on software, communications, and network coordination, while the roadway-charging patent addresses wireless power delivery across embedded charging infrastructure.
The technologies could support automated charging for passenger vehicles, fleets, and autonomous vehicles while allowing charging infrastructure to coordinate more closely with vehicle and grid systems.
