HERE Technologies announced updates to its Tour Planning software aimed at supporting electric vehicle (EV) integration in last-mile and middle-mile logistics operations.

The enhancements focus on EV-specific routing, energy consumption modeling and time-dependent planning variables to address challenges associated with fleet electrification, traffic congestion and regulatory constraints.
The updates are intended to support logistics operators transitioning to electric fleets by improving route feasibility and delivery planning accuracy for EVs.
According to industry research, adoption of electric commercial vehicles is increasing steadily, particularly in urban delivery applications where emissions regulations and vehicle operating costs are influencing fleet decisions.
The updated Tour Planning software adds EV planning functions that account for vehicle-specific operating characteristics such as battery capacity, range behavior and energy consumption under real-world conditions. Instead of using generalized assumptions, the system applies physical consumption models to estimate remaining range and determine whether planned delivery routes are feasible for specific EVs or mixed fleets.
The software can also incorporate private charging locations provided by fleet operators or reference public charging infrastructure data to support charging-aware route planning.
Additional updates introduce time-based variables that adjust routing and scheduling based on dynamic constraints such as traffic patterns, temporary road closures, restricted access zones and delivery window limitations. These functions are designed to improve estimated arrival times and reduce delays caused by time-sensitive access restrictions, which can have a greater impact on EV fleets due to range and charging considerations.
The Tour Planning platform combines EV-aware routing logic with predictive models that update plans as conditions change throughout the day. The updated capabilities are being made available to select customers, with further software updates planned over time.
