Avery Dennison Performance Tapes has introduced an addition to its EV battery Electrical Insulation Portfolio — Volt Tough Stretch. The product features a proprietary, stretchable facestock optimized for battery pack assembly.
Paired with an acrylic adhesive, the construction conforms to unique geometries and metal forming processes, resulting in tear resistance against sharp edges and metal burrs.
The company offers electrical insulation tape solutions for cooling components (plates, fins, ribbons), structural components (module side plates, pack enclosure), busbar and cell connection systems, and heat spreaders. These solutions feature the Volt Tough line of adhesive products, which help prevent electrical arcing. This is critical for the performance and safety of EV battery packs.
Product features include:
- High dielectric strength (11.2-kV ac breakdown strength)
- Adhesive with excellent bond strength to metal, high shear strength and temperature resistance
- Opaque blue color for camera system detection
- Conformable to unique geometries and metal forming processes
- Tear resistant to sharp corners and metal burrs
“With the increase of EVs in production and on the road, it’s vital to boost dielectric strength and reduce the chances of battery flammability,” said Scott Krusinski, director – Energy Storage, Avery Dennison Materials Group North America. “Volt Tough Stretch addresses challenges related to electrical insulation and will help improve the life and performance of EV batteries.”
