BorgWarner has secured a new program with a global automaker for its next-generation integrated drive module, with production expected to begin in 2027.
The three-in-one coaxial system combines an electric motor, gearbox, and GenIV inverter in a compact package. Integrating the main propulsion components into a single module is intended to simplify vehicle packaging and reduce development complexity.
The inverter incorporates BorgWarner’s Viper D power-switch technology, which is designed to reduce switching losses and support higher current capability. These improvements can increase the efficiency of the overall electric drive system.
The module also includes an oil-cooled motor and a coaxial gearbox designed to meet demanding propulsion requirements within a smaller platform architecture. An integrated parking system supports vehicle safety and regulatory requirements.
BorgWarner said the module uses a building-block hardware and software strategy that allows the system to be adapted for different vehicle programs. The approach is intended to shorten development cycles while giving automakers greater flexibility as electrified vehicle platforms evolve.
