Compact capacitors designed for 12-V systems in EV powertrains

By Michelle Froese | September 5, 2025

TDK Corporation has released the B41699 and B41799 series of ultra-compact aluminum electrolytic capacitors with axial-lead and soldering star designs, engineered for operating temperatures up to +140° C.

These components offer high capacitance and high ripple current capability in a space-saving format, supporting powertrain modules such as electric power steering (EPS), fan control, and transmission systems.

The capacitors are available with rated voltages of 25 and 35 V, capacitance values ranging from 1,800 to 13,000 µF, and ripple currents of up to 34.6 A (IAC, max) at 10 kHz and +125° C.

They’re designed with low ESR, a useful life of more than 4,000 hours under rated conditions, and vibration stability up to 60g.

These characteristics are particularly relevant for xEV platforms operating within a 12-V board net, where compact packaging, thermal resilience, and vibration resistance are required.

The B41699 axial-lead and B41799 soldering star versions allow for horizontal, vertical, or busbar configurations, with dimensions ranging from 16 x 25mm to 21 x 49mm (D x H). Based on SIKOREL technology, the capacitors support up to 15 years of storage at +35° C and comply with AEC-Q200 and RoHS standards.
