ComEd provided $500,000 in electric vehicle (EV) rebate funding and technical support to bp pulse for infrastructure upgrades supporting 40 new ultrafast EV charging ports near O’Hare Airport (ORD). The site is intended to serve local drivers and rideshare operators and to expand public charging access in Illinois.

The charging hub near ORD is among the larger public charging sites in the region and follows ComEd’s EV rebate program launch in 2024. ComEd said its rebates have supported more than 9,500 public and private charging ports since the program began.
ComEd said the rebate helped cover site and infrastructure work to bring 40 ultrafast charging bays online, including 400 and 150-kW dc fast chargers. ComEd also completed utility-side upgrades to support the added load.
The ORD site is one of six projects ComEd is working on with bp pulse, with additional locations planned for 2026 in northern Illinois.
Additional funding for the ORD charging hub came from the Illinois EPA Driving a Cleaner Illinois Program.
ComEd’s EV rebate programs are required under the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act. ComEd said Illinois has more than 160,000 registered EVs, with nearly 90% in ComEd’s service territory, compared with about 19,000 registered EVs in northern Illinois in 2019.
Since ComEd’s EV rebate programs launched in February 2024, ComEd said it has awarded nearly $150 million across 356 northern Illinois ZIP codes. The utility said this funding has supported more than 9,500 EV charging ports and more than 3,000 fleet electric vehicles. ComEd said 80% of rebates paid have gone to low-income customers or organizations located in, or primarily serving, low-income and Equity Investment Eligible Communities.
