The Government of Canada is investing $10.9 million in 22 projects supporting electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and education across the country.
Nearly $9 million will fund the installation of close to 400 chargers through nine projects under the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program. Another $2 million will support 13 education and awareness initiatives focused on EV and charging infrastructure.
The investment expands Canada’s role in the broader North American charging network. Automakers, charging providers, and commercial fleets increasingly operate across the Canada-US border, making reliable infrastructure and consistent charging access important throughout the region.
British Columbia now has more than 8,900 public charging ports, an increase of 87% since 2023. The newly funded projects will add infrastructure in communities across Canada.
The federal government is also linking the charging expansion to its National Electricity Strategy, which supports investment in electricity generation and grid capacity as transportation demand becomes increasingly electrified.
