Gravity has announced plans to launch an initial network of eight high-power electric vehicle (EV) charging sites across Greater Los Angeles, featuring charging speeds up to 500 kW.
The sites will be located in areas currently underserved by fast-charging infrastructure, including Pacific Palisades, Long Beach, Manhattan Beach, and East Pasadena. The first installations are expected to be operational in 2025.
Features:
-
Charging speed and capacity: Each site will feature approximately twelve 500 kW Distributed Energy Access Points (DEAPs), enabling vehicle charging in as little as five minutes. Previously deployed in New York City, these units are UL-listed and have demonstrated high-speed performance across various vehicle platforms.
-
Autonomous vehicle readiness: New sites will be designed with future autonomy in mind. Planned infrastructure includes dedicated lanes, sensors, and emerging cable-less charging technology to support hands-free operation and automated fleet integration.
-
Grid support and resiliency: The installations will include bi-directional vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capabilities, allowing sites to deliver power back to the grid or local infrastructure in emergency scenarios.
-
Operational performance: Current deployments of the technology have shown strong performance metrics, including high system uptime and utilization rates near 50%, indicating consistent availability and demand.
The Los Angeles network is part of a broader expansion strategy supported by a nationwide partnership. Additional sites are expected to follow, with goals to scale the infrastructure in urban and fleet-dense environments.
