BorgWarner expanding electrification with 7-in-1 Integrated Drive Module

By Michelle Froese | November 4, 2025

BorgWarner has secured a contract to supply its 7-in-1 Integrated Drive Module (iDM) to a top Chinese automaker. The system, designed for a hybrid SUV platform, integrates multiple electric propulsion functions into a single compact unit to improve overall drivetrain efficiency and packaging flexibility. Mass production is planned for 2026.

The 7-in-1 iDM combines two electric motors, a dual inverter with an onboard charger, dc-dc converter, battery voltage boost, vehicle control unit, power distribution unit, and eGear transmission within one housing.

The system supports power levels up to 160 kW at 450 V, delivering peak drive torque above 3,400 Nm with high efficiency across operating modes.

BorgWarner’s integrated architecture reflects the global shift toward electrified propulsion and system-level consolidation. High-integration eDrive units such as this can simplify manufacturing, reduce cost, and improve power density, which are key priorities as automakers scale hybrid and battery-electric platforms in major markets including North America.

This contract underscores growing demand for modular, high-voltage propulsion systems adaptable across vehicle segments as OEMs accelerate electrification programs worldwide.
