BMS diagnostics with real-time data and AI integration

By Michelle Froese | February 3, 2025

LG Energy Solution announced the availability of its new system-on-chip (SoC)-based battery management system (BMS) diagnostic solutions, now integrated with Qualcomm Technologies‘ Snapdragon Digital Chassis.

The two companies have entered into a joint promotion agreement to accelerate the commercialization of these advanced solutions. Building on their earlier collaboration, they’ve developed a next-generation BMS diagnostic solution for electric vehicles (EVs) and formed a technical consortium to advance their research further.

The BMS software also integrates with the Snapdragon Car-to-Cloud Connected Services Platform, allowing automakers to leverage the diagnostic solution for HMI and cloud services.

Unlike conventional BMS, which operates on low-spec hardware, LG Energy’s innovative software leverages the high-performance computing power of the Snapdragon Digital Chassis. This enables significant advancements in safety diagnostics and degradation/lifespan prediction. By collecting and analyzing more data than traditional systems, the solution offers faster and more accurate anomaly detection, including thermal incident identification.

The enhanced compute power — over 80 times that of conventional BMS — enables the implementation of advanced algorithms to predict battery residual capacity and degradation of specific components like anodes and cathodes. Moreover, the software operates in real-time without requiring a server connection, allowing in-vehicle analysis and diagnostics.

This announcement aligns with LG Energy’s broader strategy to expand into software and services, as outlined in its new brand, “B.around.” Offering solutions that integrate cloud and AI technologies, B.around aims to push the boundaries of conventional BMS. With over 20 years of expertise and a portfolio of 8,000 BMS-related patents, LG Energy Solution continues to set benchmarks in safety diagnostics and degradation prediction, achieving detection rates of over 90% and diagnostic error rates around one percent.
