Battery developer selected for climate tech accelerator

By Michelle Froese | July 15, 2025

Amprius Technologies has been selected to participate in the 2025 Amazon Devices Climate Tech Accelerator, a program supporting early-stage companies developing technologies with the potential to reduce carbon emissions. Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund backs the program and aims to scale climate-relevant innovations.

Amprius is developing advanced lithium-ion battery cells that use a silicon anode design. These batteries offer significantly higher energy density compared to conventional graphite-based lithium-ion cells. This allows for lighter batteries with longer runtime and faster charging capabilities.

Although the accelerator is focused on devices, Amprius is positioning its SiCore battery platform for multiple sectors, including light electric vehicles (EVs), electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, and robotics. For EVs, increased energy density means batteries can deliver more range without added weight, which is particularly important for small-format vehicles such as electric scooters, drones, and micromobility platforms.

By supporting high-energy applications while maintaining compact size and fast recharge potential, the technology may help improve efficiency and reduce emissions in the transportation and logistics sectors.

Amprius’s participation in the accelerator is expected to focus on scaling its battery technology and exploring integration opportunities across carbon-conscious industries, including next-generation EV platforms.
