Automated test system supports high-power EV battery evaluation

By Michelle Froese | April 7, 2025

Maccor, a global provider of electronic test and measurement equipment and battery charging systems, has introduced the Series 8500, a fully automated battery test system designed to evaluate electric vehicle (EV) components and packs under real-world conditions.

Engineered for high-power battery testing, the Series 8500 delivers precise, reliable performance. It can also return electrical energy from discharges back to the grid, enhancing efficiency and sustainability.

Equipped with Maccor’s standard battery test software, the Series 8500 supports virtually all battery test profiles, including FUDS, SFUDS, and DST cycles and custom drive cycle simulations.

It’s also available in single or multi-channel configurations, with voltage ratings from 5 to 500 V and current support up to 550A. It’s suitable for a wide range of EV battery architectures and performance levels.

Features:

  • Energy recovery: Electrical energy is returned to the AC grid during discharge, improving energy efficiency.

  • High power, continuous operation: 100% duty cycle with no system power limit allows continuous testing at full power — ideal for high-demand EV applications.

  • Drive cycle simulation: Users can import waveform profiles directly into test procedures, streamlining test efficiency and minimizing operator error.

  • Safety built-in: Features include a local emergency cut-off switch, reverse voltage protection, internal circuit breakers, and automatic shutdown on AC loss.

  • Automated data scaling: Results are automatically scaled in W/kg or C-rate, reducing post-processing and operator workload.

  • Real-time monitoring: View test progress through real-time data and graphics for continuous visibility into battery performance.

Maccor’s Series 8500 brings precision and flexibility to EV battery testing, supporting safer, faster, and more efficient development of electrified mobility solutions. Learn more here.
