Vishay Intertechnology has introduced the AEC-Q200-qualified Vishay Roederstein MKP1848e dc-Link metalized polypropylene film capacitor, designed for the harsh conditions of automotive, energy, and industrial environments.
With high temperature operation up to +125° C, ripple current up to 44.5 A, and proven reliability under temperature humidity bias (THB) testing, the MKP1848e addresses demanding power conversion requirements.
The MKP1848e is particularly suited for electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle platforms, supporting applications such as onboard chargers (OBC), dc/dc converters, e-compressors, HVAC systems, and electric powertrains.
With an operating voltage range from 250 to 800 Vdc at +125° C, it matches the standard voltage levels of EV battery systems. Its high ripple current capability, compact footprint, and improved thermal shock resistance enable more reliable and space-efficient designs in EV power electronics.
Technical details
The capacitor offers rated capacitance from 1 µF to 140 µF, low ESR down to 1.0 mΩ, and rated voltages from 500 VDC to 1300 VDC. Compared to previous-generation solutions, the MKP1848e provides 25% higher ripple current density in the same volume.
At 500 and 900 Vdc, its optimized design enables volume reductions up to 40 and 15%, respectively.
For energy and industrial applications, the MKP1848e supports fast chargers, battery storage systems, motor drives, and more. It withstands 1000 thermal cycles between -40° and +125° C with a 30-minute dwell at each extreme, further improving long-term reliability. Samples and production quantities of the MKP1848e are available now, with lead times of 10 weeks.
