AEC-Q200 power resistor designed for EV BMS and chargers

By Michelle Froese | October 16, 2025

Vishay Intertechnology has introduced a new AEC-Q200 qualified, 50-watt thick film power resistor for high-reliability automotive applications. The LTA 50, packaged in a compact TO-220 case for direct heatsink mounting, is designed to handle demanding electrical and thermal conditions in electric and hybrid vehicles.

The resistor operates at temperatures up to +175° C and withstands high humidity, vibration, and electrical stress, ensuring consistent performance in safety-critical environments.

With resistance values ranging from 0.010 Ω to 450 kΩ and tolerances down to ±1 %, the device can serve as a precharge or discharge resistor in onboard chargers, battery management systems, and motor control units for EVs, HEVs, and PHEVs.

The non-inductive design supports a dielectric strength of 1500 Vrms and a limiting element voltage of 500 V, making it suitable for next-generation high-voltage architectures. Samples and production quantities are currently available, with lead times of approximately 10 weeks.

Vishay Intertechnology supplies discrete semiconductors and passive components used across automotive, industrial, and other high-performance electronic systems.
