Panasonic Energy and Lucid Motors have collaborated to equip the Lucid Gravity Grand Touring with lithium-ion EV battery cells. The vehicle has an EPA-estimated range of up to 450 miles and uses a battery pack up to 40% smaller than those in similar models.
Lucid Gravity is designed to provide the interior space and practicality of a full-size SUV contained inside the exterior footprint of a mid-size SUV. It offers up to 120 cubic feet of total usable cargo space and seating for up to seven adults.
The vehicle is equipped with 828 horsepower, is capable of 0 to 60 in under 3.5 seconds, and has an EPA-rated range of up to 450 miles. These features are supported by Panasonic Energy’s latest-generation 2170 cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells, with an energy density exceeding 800Wh/L.
Developed in collaboration with Lucid, these cells are designed to meet specific requirements for fast charging, safety, longevity, and performance.
As of December 2023, Panasonic Energy has supplied approximately 15 billion lithium-ion EV batteries worldwide, powering around three million EVs without recalls due to battery-related issues. This collaboration with Lucid on the Gravity SUV contributes to the development of Lucid’s powertrain system.
The partnership between Panasonic Energy and Lucid was established through several multi-year agreements in 2022. Panasonic Energy’s batteries have also been integrated into the Lucid Air Pure, prompting the adoption of Panasonic’s advanced cylindrical lithium-ion batteries in the Lucid Gravity models.
