QuantumScape Corporation, a developer of solid-state lithium-metal battery technology, announced it has begun shipping B1 samples of its QSE-5 cell. The milestone, achieved in the third quarter of 2025, marks one of the company’s primary objectives for the year.
The B1 samples are QuantumScape’s most advanced cells to date, incorporating separators produced with the company’s new Cobra process. By combining the QSE-5 design with more efficient manufacturing methods, the cells represent progress toward high-volume production of solid-state batteries for electric vehicles (EVs), energy storage, and other applications.
Cobra-based QSE-5 cells are featured in QuantumScape’s first vehicle program with the Volkswagen Group, the Ducati V21L motorcycle. The program serves as a real-world demonstration of the performance potential of QuantumScape’s solid-state technology.
To further support scale-up and automotive-grade reliability, QuantumScape is installing its Eagle Line pilot production system at its San Jose, California, headquarters. The highly automated line is designed to refine cell production processes and prepare for larger-scale manufacturing.
