Element Energy, a Menlo Park-based battery management technology company, has partnered with LG Energy Solution Vertech to offer turn-key second-life battery energy storage systems.
Element Energy will supply containerized second-life batteries with its proprietary battery management system (BMS) hardware and software. LG will handle system integration, power equipment, energy management software, and operations and maintenance services.
Second-life battery solutions offer a cost-effective alternative for energy storage developers, extending the usefulness of retired electric vehicle (EV) batteries while reducing the need for energy-intensive recycling. This approach supports a growing domestic supply chain and the circular economy.
The collaboration comes on the heels of Element Energy energizing the world’s largest second-life battery installation, as the company prepares to deploy its 2-GWh inventory of second-life batteries. Founded in 2019, Element Energy focuses on advancing battery safety, performance, and cost-effectiveness through its proprietary hardware and software, applicable to first and second-life batteries.
